Women’s Day 2020
Stronger together, the way forward
In the midst of heightened anxieties across the world, one brand united with approximately 200 women to show appreciation and solidarity on International Women’s Day 2020. In an event coined, ‘Stronger Together’ and packaged as 60 minutes of inspiration, the affair kicked off with an inspirational segment led by Gospel artist Trenacia Esseboom, followed by an empowering presentation by international speaker Dr. Helena Temple from England.
Stronger Together was attended by a diverse group of women from across Barbados, including business executives and community leaders. The gathering also saw an overwhelming representation of female entrepreneurs as well as many up-and-coming trailblazers such as the newest Miss Universe Barbados, Hilary-Ann Williams, who marked the event as her first official public appearance since her coronation.
Dr. Temple’s message could not have been more relevant to the audience, given that we are living in a moment where both men and women need to work together to overcome both the inequalities and other worldwide challenges that face humanity. According to Ms. Temple, ‘ If we valued each other and every person for who they are and for the skills and the talent they can offer, then we would have less of the tensions between men and women.’ She further challenged the gathering to choose respect and resist the urge to demoralize others in an attempt to lift personal agendas. She concluded, ‘If each of us could respond with respect regardless, it would show the incredibly polarized world that there is a better way to bring about real change, with men and women working together. Perhaps then, more and more people would realize that we are stronger, together.’
Launched just under a year ago as a fashion brand, egi (pronounced edgy) has moved beyond fashion and towards its vision to become an inspirational lifestyle brand for women. According to its founder and Brand Strategy Consultant, Gina Cummins, ‘The vision of egi is to provide a space where women find common ground, share stories and inspire each other to take on the world. When we started, we began the conversation around fashion, because that was a topic that women could have a discussion around naturally, and also because image is such an important part of how we as women present ourselves to the world. Now we want to take the conversation even further and start to utilize other platforms to provide women with the tools and resources which could help them to live fulfilling lives. Creating events like this one is only the beginning and we look forward to working with other brands and businesses that provide products and services which offer transformational value to our growing female audience’.
Partners of the event included Fortress Fund Managers, FLOW, Island Smiles Photo Experience, Occasio Plannning Services , Shannon Ashley Design Studios and Proof Magazine.
